Sharing from Worthing Borough Council:
This summer, we asked you to let us know what you thought of our plans to widen the path that runs from Sea Lane to George V Avenue in Goring so that more people can safely enjoy using it.
The proposal is to widen the existing path and make it shared use for both walking and wheeling - allowing cyclists to use the path and providing better accessibility for wheelchair users and people with buggies.
We ran a consultation both online and in person at a series of events this summer, so we could hear from people who currently use the path as well as potential future users before we finalise our plans.
Thank you to everyone who took part in the consultation - over 1,100 of you online, 150 people in person and a number of other formal responses from stakeholder groups and organisations.
We’re currently considering the results of the consultation and listening to all of the feedback you have given us.
One action we are taking forward is meeting with an invited group of accessibility organisations to discuss the needs of different users, including wheelchair users and people with hearing or sight impairments, to get a better understanding of concerns about how the shared space might work.
In the meantime, you can read more about the proposed plans on our dedicated webpage: https://www.adur-worthing.gov.uk/goring-shared-use-path/
.
Should the project go ahead, the next steps will involve coming up with detailed final designs and seeking external funding to deliver the proposed improvements to the path.
We’ll keep you updated throughout via our webpage and on social media.
